Overview

Nestled in the heart of Permatang Pauh, Penang, Restaurant Fais stands as a beacon for those craving a blend of hearty Western and local Malaysian flavors. Situated at 1260 Mk 4 Pmtg Janggus, this modest roadside eatery offers an inviting escape for both families and food enthusiasts seeking flavorful comfort food in a casual setting.

The culinary highlight here undeniably lies in their variety of meat-centric dishes. From the crispy, generously portioned Bigbob Chicken Chop served with robust black pepper gravy to the succulent Lamb Chop grilled to perfection, the menu caters well to lovers of classic Western fare. The Mixed Plate offers a convenient sampler of the best, including grilled chicken and lamb cuts, though some find room for improvement in its seasoning depth. Local Malaysian staples like Nasi Kukus Ayam Berempah reveal an authentic touch, its spiced fried chicken echoing the famed Kelantanese style with satisfying crunch and aroma.

Pasta enthusiasts will appreciate the thoughtful twists on familiar favorites: the Casablanca Spaghetti with chicken drenched in a creamy, Casablanca-style sauce, and the Spaghetti Carbonara, which balances savory cheese with textures from either crispy fried fish or grilled chicken. Although some diners mention the sauce could benefit from a thicker consistency, the dishes remain comforting and well-constructed.

The experience at Restaurant Fais extends beyond the plate. Customer reviews often commend the swift service and friendly staff who make the dining experience smooth and welcoming. The spacious seating allows for comfortable, relaxed dining, perfect for families or groups. The restaurant’s cleanliness and attention to hospitality further enhance its appeal.

However, the location presents a slight challenge. Being roadside with limited or no dedicated parking, patrons often have to find roadside spots, which might cause inconvenience during peak hours. Despite this, the overall atmosphere remains pleasant, with the buzz of friendly chatter and clinking cutlery creating a warm communal vibe.

For those venturing here, the flavorful soups like the mushroom soup accompanied by garlic bread offer a perfect starter, while the refreshing beverage options such as fresh orange juice or iced corn milk make an excellent complement. The combination of local and Western dishes positions Restaurant Fais as a diverse culinary stop — a spot to satisfy comfort food cravings with generous portions and authentic taste profiles.

In summary, Restaurant Fais excels as a cost-effective, hearty dining option with strong points in its Western-style mains and local specialties. It appeals to families, casual diners, and anyone seeking straightforward, well-crafted meals in Penang's Permatang Pauh. While some aspects like parking and occasional inconsistency in certain dishes exist, the attentive service and warm environment make it a recommended destination for everyday dining.

Very cost effective restaurant. Food is tasty with a good portions. Service is fast and efficient. A lot of sitting tables and comfortable. I’m very happy with my chicken chop. Restaurant itself is clean. The only downsize is the parking space, since the restaurant is beside the main road. Overall nice experience. 4/5

Never mind the gravy, the deep fried chicken for the nasi Kukus Ayam Berempah tastes authentic enough, at par with the original Kelantan's counterpart. The sizzling mee is also nice. Thanks, will come again.

After reading raved reviews about Fais Restaurant, I decided to give them a visit. So this evening my wife and kids to the restaurant because we always enjoy Western foods. The restaurant is located by the side of main road. You have to park your car by the roadsides because there is no dedicated parking space for restaurant patrons. After being seated, the owner himself came to give us the menu. You have a selection of western and local foods like fried rice etc. We decided to order mushroom soup, spaghetti carbonara, mixed grills & chicken chops and ice green tea & sweetened ice corn milk. To our surprise, the foods came really quick. We didn’t have to wait very long for our foods. Generally, if you come without huge expectations then you would not be disappointed. Their food is above average (for a roadside restaurant). Their chicken chops are nice and crispy with perfectly done black pepper gravy. It would be perfect if it comes with a sunny side egg as a standard. The mixed grill is average - I would expect a tastier grilled chicken and lambs. However, we were served with grilled white meat chicken (breast part) which tasted more like a roasted chicken than a grilled chicken. The spaghetti carbonara is nice but would be perfect if the sauce is not too runny. Drinks came in very tall plastic containers that would definitely quench your thirst. Overall, we enjoyed our meals there and would definitely recommend it to our friends. Update: 9/11/2023 Reduced my rating to 2 stars. The food is not as good as before…. NO LONGER RECOMMENDED!

I tried their grilled chicken chop with black paper sauce. Surprisingly not bad for a RM12++ chicken chop! They have plenty of dishes. You gotta check this restaurant out!
